Question
Elmer Fudd –
Been snowshoeing with old Alaskan Trapper wooden shoes for 45 years. But I have no idea what this heel lift thingy is?? No instructions with shoes???

Yukon Charlie’s Web Team –
Hi Elmer! The integrated heel lift feature keeps your heel centered and quickly alleviates calf strain and fatigue on steeper inclines. Prior to heading up a steep incline, simply place it in the “up” position, so the bar with the tab on it is directly under the center of your heel. It’ll feel like walking on “high heels” when on flat terrain, so you’ll want to be sure it’s laying flat anytime you’re not walking uphill.

Question
Justin Yan –
Hi, I’m trying to decide between the carbon flex and the elite spin models. What’s the advantage of the Carbon Flex overmolded design over the traditional aluminum frame of the Elite? I’d like to try to Carbon but I’m concerned they are larger than needed as I fall into the 25 inch sizing.
Thanks!

Team Yukon Charlie’s –
Carbon Flex has a larger “footprint” as the frame is larger at size 9×28. This larger frame will provide great flotation in deep snow and the rocker frame will compliment your stride while walking providing a different feel than the Elite. They will certainly work for you, but the Elite has a smaller footprint and more traditional type of performance I recommend over the Carbon Flex to be sure it will meet your expectations. Hope this helps!

Question
ST –
I am a beginner, do you recommend the carbon flex spin for someone just starting out? I am mainly walking trails on conservation land.

It’s a really great shoe for users at any level. A key benefit is its great floatation in deep snow, so if you’re walking mostly on packed snow, you could probably go with a lower price style, but these will offer you a great shoe for a wide variety of terrains.

Not a review but a question, please. What exactly is “Durable Over-Molded FLHP?” Nothing the description explicates. Kindly detail the materials and construction for me please.

Thanks for asking Steve! We over-mold our Stainless Steel axle with FLHP / Flexible Linear Hydrocarbon Polymer (modified PP – Polypropylene).

Question
Carter S –
Is the binding system large enough to work well with snowboard boots?

Team Yukon Charlie’s –
Although the bindings are designed for hiking and snow boots, we’ve heard from many folks that they fit fine with snowboard boots as well. Unfortunately, due to the wide variety of snowboard boots on the market, it’s tough to guarantee they will fit, so if you’re at all in doubt, you’ll want to find a dealer near you where you can test your boots with the shoes. Check out the dealer locator here on our website for help finding someone near you.
